        - About Patchpixie -

Sean creates all of the beautiful glass artwork here at PatchPixie.

All glass items are hand blown in a subterranean workshop in western Pennsylvania where the craftsman is rarely allowed to see the light of day. This greatly helps decrease the amount of distractions, keeping the craftsman more focused. A strict diet of leafy greens, herbs, coffee, & tobacco is enforced to boost creativity & production. Music is almost always played to calm the craftsman (they tend to be a bit tempramental, due of course to the tempramental nature of working with glass!) This is done to insure that each piece is well made.

Each item is made from borosilicate (Pyrex) glass. All glass is made thick not only for durability, but also to add a greater magnifying effect to the inside-out work. Each piece is unique, this means that exact patterns & designs are rarely repeated, and, if they are, the nature if glass always adds for variation in color – so, each piece truly is one-of-a-kind.

About "Lissa Lush"

Lissa Lush is a self-representing artist. She works in a variety of mediums and one of her favorite things to do is create wearable fiber art, like you see in her picture. That is Lissa wearing one of her very own Space Helmets.

She also sells handmade herbals and jewelry, and vintage clothing. Lissa has been selling my jewelry since she was quite young, often in parking lots of concerts of bands like Phish and The Grateful Dead. She enjoys many types of music though, and these days listen to mostly jazz or death metal (especially the scary European kind!)
.

Some items are color-changing. This is achieved by putting gold and/or silver into the flame and vaporizing it, which covers the glass in a thin film of metal. Then, when pores of the glass are filled in with dirt, oil from hands, smoke, etc. the piece itself changes colors. The glass is properly & thoroughly annealed. The annealing process entails putting the piece into a kiln and then a slow cooling period. This insures a molecularly stronger piece of glass, making it more resilient to temperature changes as well as accidental drops.

Each piece is priced according to the difficulty & time to produce certain patterns & designs. For example, the inside-out pieces take nearly twice the amount of time as outside worked pieces. They also require more skill, and therefore, are generally priced more expensively.

PLEASE NOTE: ****The photographs do not truly portray the pieces as if seen with the naked eye. Some colors have many shades of color within them that can only be seen in certain types of light (the best being reflected sunlight).****

She is also a freelance landscape designer and has been in that field for about 14 years now. She would really like to be able to make a living with her art, and thanks to the wonderful people who have been buying her creations she is starting to do just that. Lissa is happy to consider custom orders and you can find her goods on eBay under username Lissalushart.

PatchPixie is currently featuring Lissa’s “Fiber Jam Hats”.

Lissa writes, “They look like my space helmets, but what I am doing differently is now I get my yarn all ready before I make my hats but rolling up big balls of scraps. I use a few per hat, so I never know just how it is going to turn out. Therefore, I am calling these my Fiber Jam hats..because, it's like a jam..it ebbs and flows and sometimes goes to amazing places and other times just kinda drags on, lol. But they are totally improvisational and I really look at these as a work of art. I love making them.”

Thanks for sharing your work with the world, Lissa!! We think these hats are amazing – just ask Becca – she wears hers all the time!
